  AIA Florida Northwest continues to host the hugely popular gingerbread house competition in local elementary schools. The turnout has averaged over 200 entries per year with hundreds of kids and their families attending each school's competition.

Attendees will better understand glazing performance relating to sound mitigation and options available to increase sound ratings in order to create efficient structures that benefit the occupant’s health and well-being.

  2. Realize the harmful physical and emotional effects of sound pollution.

  Every year, Florida architects visit lawmakers and policymakers in their offices in Tallahassee to advocate for issues, pass out AIA Florida posters and make connections that will improve the practice of architecture in the state.   10:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. - Legislative Day Visits and War Room located in 231 Senate Office Building open. The AIA Florida headquarters will be open with snacks during this time.

  4:30 - 6:30 p.m. - Legislative Day Reception at AIA Florida Headquarters located at 104 E Jefferson St.

  This course focuses on gypsum products manufactured with fiberglass facing which replaces the paper facing typically used on gypsum board. These products are regarded as “high performance” due to their superior weather resistance, superior fire resistance, and superior mold resistance. Five common product types include panels manufactured for 1.) exterior wall sheathing, 2.) shaftliner for cavity walls and area separation walls 3.) potential interior high-moisture conditions, 4.) tile backer boards for wet areas, and 5.) roof coverboards for low slope roof applications. The presentation outlines the high-performance characteristics of fiberglass faced gypsum products. The basic applications, attributes, advantages, and limitations of each of the five common product types are described. By understanding the performance and features of these fiberglass faced gypsum products, the specifications and drawing details can be properly prepared for successful use in buildings.

  High Performance Gypsum: Protect against Mold, Moisture and Exposure

  This course focuses on gypsum products manufactured with fiberglass facing which replaces the paper facing typically used on gypsum board. These products are regarded as “high performance” due to their superior weather resistance, superior fire resistance, and superior mold resistance. Five common product types include panels manufactured for 1.) exterior wall sheathing, 2.) shaftliner for cavity walls and area separation walls 3.) potential interior high-moisture conditions, 4.) tile backer boards for wet areas, and 5.) roof coverboards for low slope roof applications. The presentation outlines the high-performance characteristics of fiberglass faced gypsum products. The basic applications, attributes, advantages, and limitations of each of the five common product types are described. By understanding the performance and features of these fiberglass faced gypsum products, the specifications and drawing details can be properly prepared for successful use in buildings.
