SMALL FIRM COLLABORATIVE

Small Firm Collaborative – A Lunch Event

Small firms represent a significant portion of the Panhandle's architectural landscape. However, the diverse roles that small firm owners and employees often take on can lead to their interests being overlooked and their contributions undervalued. This collaborative event aims to connect small firms to discuss their needs and create a supportive environment for social interaction and collaboration—an opportunity often taken for granted in larger firms.

Our Goals:

  1. Advocate for Small Firms: We aim to promote the value of small firms both within the AIA and to the public, advancing the mutual interests of architects practicing in smaller settings.
  2. Foster Idea Exchange: We seek to establish a safe space for sharing ideas and information, helping all small firms thrive and discover new ways to engage clients.
  3. Build a Collaborative Community: We envision a community where small firms can come together socially, discuss challenges and successes, and collaborate on projects or designs when a single firm may find a task too daunting.

Join us for this discussion to explore how we can strengthen our community and elevate our collective goals and interests.

MAGICAL HISTORY TOUR BIKE RIDE

Join us for a small group slow bike ride with a local history and architecture theme. The ride will wind through quiet streets in downtown Pensacola, Belmont Devilliers, North Hill, East Hill and Old East Hill with brief stops at the oldest homes and other significant structures and historic sites in each neighborhood.

Riders will move as a group and will ride at a slow, comfortable pace that should be easy for most people. Christian Wagley, executive director of Bike Pensacola will lead the Ride and provide interpretation along the way, ranging from history and architecture to street and neighborhood design.

The Ride will start and finish at Martin Luther King Plaza in downtown Pensacola, located at 50 N Palafox St, Pensacola, FL 32502. If you need to rent a bicycle, two locally owned bicycle shops with rental bicycles are located within one block of the start. Those shops are Bikes Plus and Cycle Joint (E-bikes).

Unlock Acoustic Excellence: Design Strategies that Impact STC Ratings

In contemporary building design, the significance of sound control has never been more pronounced. A fundamental grasp of acoustical terminology and the principles of sound transmission is crucial for designing wall partitions that align with project-specific performance goals, adhere to code requirements, and align with industry standards. This course delves into six key concepts that have the potential to affect STC ratings in wall assemblies, allowing for the realization of desired acoustical performance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine key acoustical concepts and terminology, including STC, decibels, hertz, and frequency.
  • Explore how sound is transmitted through wall partitions.
  • Review code requirements and industry guidelines for sound transmission between adjacent spaces.
  • Learn six concepts that can influence the STC rating of a wall assembly.
