New Fire stopping and Fire Resistive Joint Inspection Requirements:
Due to recent changes to the Florida Fire Prevention Code, NFPA 1 Chapter 12.3.2 new procedures are in effect on all new building three stories and more in height. A quality assurance program for the installation of devices and systems installed to protect penetrations must be prepared and monitored by the Registered Design Professional responsible for design. The QA program must include a report submitted with the architectural plans detailing all the fire stop and joint systems to be used and the specific responsibilities of the special inspector who will be inspecting them. Inspection must meet the requirements of the referenced ASTM standards. Inspection reports are required from the special inspector along with a closing document (signed and sealed) by the RDP detailing all inspections and compliance with his or her original design intent.
